Pre-K

All About Pre-K

Westgate Pre-K is a full-day program that primarily serves children who are four years old by September 30. At Westgate, we have one Pre-K classroom.

If your family qualifies for free or reduced school lunch or you are currently receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, you are eligible to apply to Pre-K. Enrollment is based on need; it is not based on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment information is below.

Academic Overview

A child's early years are essential in developing a foundation for school success. Westgate works hard to provide programs and services that prepare young children and parents who need extra guidance and support to be ready to start kindergarten feeling confident and ready to learn. Executive Function Skills & Self-Regulation

High quality early childhood experiences provide opportunities for children to build executive functions and self-regulation skills that support young learners to focus on problem-solving, impulse control, setting goals and working towards them, and getting along with others. Portrait of a Graduate Skills

In 2014, FCPS adopted the Portrait of a Graduate to answer this question: What are the skills necessary for success for all children in this rapidly changing, increasingly diverse, and interconnected world? More information about what that looks like in our class here: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/early-childhood-education/early-childhood-portrait-graduate
