10 Things That Make Westgate Wonderful!

What Makes Westgate Elementary School Special

It's a Great Day to be in the Westgate Wolfpack!

10 Reasons Westgate Stands Out

Westgate Elementary School is in the Tysons Corner area of Northern Virginia and opened in the fall of 1968. The student population exemplifies a rich, diverse cultural heritage representing over 39 countries. Westgate offers a warm and stimulating climate in which children come first. Westgate is part of Region 5 of Fairfax County Public Schools. The school embraces the collaborative approach to education, focusing on parents, staff members, and the community working as a team to promote the academic growth and success of each learner.

Positive School Culture

Programs like West Fest, an event planned entirely by students to create a sense of belonging, help build a respectful and inclusive school culture. Family surveys consistently reflect high satisfaction with our positive climate.

Advanced Academics Program

Our Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) challenge and inspire high-achieving students with rigorous coursework. By focusing on critical thinking and problem solving, we provide a differentiated learning experience that meets the unique needs of advanced learners. Westgate is committed to academic excellence for all students, offering a continuum of services and challenging coursework.

Active and Inclusive Parent-Teacher Association (PTA)

Our very supportive PTA hosts countless events throughout the school year, from well-known events such as FallFest, Bingo Night, and the Faculty Volleyball Game vs. the staff at Freedom Hill ES. They host spirit nights at different community restaurants for families to enjoy while giving back. The PTA also arranges an exciting assembly in school, from magicians to extreme scientists, and also hosts an evening presentation for families.

Robust Extracurricular Activities

A variety of after school activities, coordinated by the Westgate PTA, are offered three times throughout the school year, consisting of a diverse range of choices. Some of the programs include Fitness Fanatics, Pottery, Chess, Board Games, Volleyball, Field Hockey, Rugby, and Foreign Languages.

Annual Career Day

Our annual Career Day provides students with valuable insights into the real-world applications of their Portrait of a Graduate skills. Industry experts share their experiences as communicators, collaborators, critical and creative thinkers, global and ethical citizens, and goal-oriented and resilient individuals. Last year, we were honored to host Angie Goff and Shomari Stone from Fox5 News, who featured Westgate on the evening news.

Student Leadership Opportunities

We offer a variety of school clubs where students can discover new interests and build their leadership skills. Examples include Westgate Student Ambassadors, Safety Patrols, and Westgate Buddies.teacher helping student

Highly Qualified Staff

Westgate’s teachers are passionate about providing each student with an exceptional education. They continually strive to improve their teaching skills through ongoing professional development. By staying up-to-date on the latest teaching standards, practices, and interventions, they create a stimulating learning environment. Our teachers are dedicated to fostering a love of learning in their students, inspiring them to reach their full potential.

Focus on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)

Students develop essential life skills such as emotional regulation, empathy, and responsible decision-making. Through SEL programs integrated into our curriculum, such as Zones of Regulation, students are taught how to navigate social interactions, manage their feelings, and build positive relationships.

Modern Facilities and Resources

Our recently renovated building features bright, welcoming classrooms equipped with the latest technology. Two outdoor courtyards provide additional learning spaces, cared for by our dedicated Garden Club. The club grows vegetables in raised beds and supports the Monarch butterfly population by tending to milkweed plants.
